Bono: "King of the Douchebags"? I think not!

I'm writing this post in response to another bloggers take on Bono. She is a young lass in her mid-20's with a kick-ass celebrity beef blog so check it out. http://twogirlsandagay.blogspot.com

Anyway, she goes on to bemoan Bono as the "King of the Douchebags". Her contention is that his ubiquitous presence and constant quests to save the poor and disenfranchised are really annoying and that he is the "King" of all of the other celebrity douches that make the news like Scott Stapp, Dr. Phil, Ann Coulter, Donald Trump, Joe Simpson, Howard Stern, Paris Hilton, etc.

I have to totally disagree.

Perhaps her attitude towards Bono is really a result of the fact that she isn't old enough to really have embraced Bono and U2 when they were really ground-breaking and cool (Clearly before the Zoo TV phase). Not to belittle her age or lack of experience. To the contrary, she seems bright and beyond her years, but let's face it, she wasn't around when Bono rocked all of our worlds as he lamented the bloodshed and injustice of "Sunday Bloody Sunday".

It becomes a lot easier, I think, to doubt people's sincerity when they are richer than God and wear ridiculous sunglasses that scream "hey look at me, my sunglass are really big," but it is my opinion that Bono is truly well-meaning and altruistic. Too me, he is an example of someone that really cares about the poor people of the world. He is willing to spend large amounts of his own money and time meeting with people with true power to make change.

All along, his music details his political interests and concerns and his latest and largest crusade is just the culmination of his life's work. I'll be interested to see what's next. It's not like one day he just appeared to care and was all like, "hey look what I'm into now".

At the very least, there is a piece of me that needs to believe that "douchebags" don't get nominated for Nobel Peace Prizes.

GAY 80'S

My friend, Jodi, has placed on her blog, http://miller-insight.com, a video of Modern English's "Melt with You". As I was sitting there watching the video I was thinking how gay those 80's Pop singers were. Even if they weren't gay they all looked gay!! Limahl of Kajagoogoo? Boy George? George Michael and Andrew Ridgely? Hello?

It was totally funny when people were shocked when George Michael and Boy George came out of the closet!!!!!

LIFE

Life can be tough sometimes. We are nervously awaiting the outcome of Jeb's liver tests. The poor kid has given so much blood recently.

I've developed a nervous twitch over my left eye.

I wish I was just one of those people that could just give up my worries to a higher power, but I can't let go for fear that I'll have the opportunity to change the outcome of something and miss the chance, because I wasn't paying attention.

I keep telling myself that I shouldn't feel guilty and truthfully I don't know what I could have possible done differently. This has all been so random and a bad draw. Having a sick child is just about the worst thing that somebody could go through. I feel so helpless, and I know I have to be strong. He will either get better, or not. Anyway, having spent so much time in the NICU, I know that there are plenty of kids that are worse off.

The truth is, I have never been all that good with drama, which is why I've worked so hard to have a life not filled with it. I guess sometimes it is unavoidable. It is still awful, though.

Corky!

What is Corky's Revenge? Who is Corky?

Corky is the much beloved main character from the television show "Life Goes On". Do you remember him? Much to the dismay of his gentle if over protective parents, he wanted to "move out and have his own apartment". I always thought it would have been really funny if Corky was much smarter than everyone thought he was and maybe was a little meaner than everyone anticipated.

Let's face it- the show would have been much more interesting if it was really about Corky plotting revenge against the people who underestimated him.

So as a tribute to Corky, every time I kick somebody's ass at trivia, fantasy sports, or other endeavors that require a moniker, I am always Corky's Revenge!!!!! Rock on Corky! I love you!
